Here is an excerpt from my memoir, taken from a chapter titled, “One Yoga Pose at a Time,” written while I was in the middle of my training:
"I want to understand yoga as a physical experience: what the body can do and how it does it is all based on anatomical architecture. The health benefits of the poses excite me—every pose does something good, just as every nutrient-dense food nourishes. Chest openers benefit the endocrine system and glands, such as the thymus gland, which makes T-cells and supports immunity. Inversions, head below the heart, benefit the lymphatic system, lungs, diaphragm, and abdominal organs, in addition to stretching and strengthening posterior muscles, improving bone density, and activating the parasympathetic nervous system. Here at Kripalu I am enthralled by a miracle: how all the tissues of the body respond to movement and how movement confers health."
I warmly welcome you to join me on this journey of discovery!
